Dems turn out for great picnic
In spite of a 105 degree heat index, almost 200 Dems came out for the annual picnic and shared great food, great music, and great conversation. Thanks to Golick’s Meat Market for the food, Crooked Cactus Band for the music, and candidates for local, state, and federal offices for words of encouragement.

Third Kirschbaum-Fitzsimmons scholarship awarded in August
Although two students—Grace Ludwig and Devan Riberdy—were awarded Kirschbaum-Fitzsimmons scholarships earlier this year, another scholarship was awarded after additional information was received. Finn Boyle, a 2025 graduate of Bettendorf High School, was also given a scholarship when Iowa’s Secretary of State announced that Bettendorf High School would receive the Carrie Chapman Catt award, given to high schools who register at least 90 percent of eligible voters.
Finn went beyond that: his efforts led to 100 percent of the senior class registering to vote. Finn was also involved in door knocking as well as other Scott County Democrats events, leading the Central Committee to decide to award a third scholarship this year.
Finn will enroll at Stanford University to major in Spanish and economics and plans to attend law school.
